September Shoes on Danube

This photo was taken by my chef friend, Rose. She visited me when I was still living in Budapest and she found this memorial along the promenade on river Danube. They are made of iron. And they evoked a lot of different emotions in people, especially sadness.

These iron shoes are on the Danube Promenade right at the Parliament Building. It is a memorial to the Budapest Jews who fell victim to the Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest and depicts their shoes left behind on the bank when they fell into the river after having been shot during World War II.

Are there any interesting (moving) memorials in your city?
